Art, music, theater and dance.

walking around atlantic station today, i noticed one of the old boutiques is being converted into an art studio!  this friday, may 21, 2010 from 6:00-9:00pm; f18 photography is opening up its doors to the public to showcase 18 photographers and their work in contemporary photography.

their website says: f/18 features the work of 18 atlanta-based artists, brought together by one common thread: pushing the boundaries of contemporary photography.  the show will feature their latest works, comprising traditional, digital, and alternative methods in photography.

the show will run until sunday, may 23, 2010 so be sure to check it out this weekend!  for more information, click here.

address: atlantic station, 232 19th street nw suite 7130

atlanta native michelle malone and her band will be back in town on may15th at the kirwood spring fling & tour of homes. on the heels of the release of her tenth studio album, grammy nominated “debris” through the thirty tigers record label, michelle promises to tear up the stage at 5:30 pm for festival attendees. michelle’s sound has previously been compared to sheryl crow, bonnie raitt, and lucinda williams, but we think she has a style all her own. a combination of southern rock ‘n’ roll, sultry blues, and down home slide guitar pleases crowds both young and old. better yet, we love michelle because she grew up right here in atlanta. like many southern singer-songwriters, michelle grew up singing in the church choir before striking out on her own at sixteen. she now resides in decatur, alabama, but we’re thrilled to have her back in town.

make sure you have plenty of time to check out the kirkwood spring fling & tour of homes that weekend, but be sure to cap off your night with michelle malone.

using physical prowess, raw masculinity & technical perfection, dance superstar rasta thomas & his stunningly talented bad boys give their atlanta premiere performance at the ga tech ferst center for the arts on april 22, 2010!  tickets are between $32-$42 & you can buy them online by clicking here.  check out the bad boys of dance website & see clips of some amazing performances & moves!

***Snitchtip – for you so you think you can dance fans…some alumni are on the tour!  don’t miss the chance to see kameron bink, danny tidwell & jakob karr!  in addition the show is featuring “pretty girls of dance” & sytycd favorites jaime goodwin & karla garcia are also in the cast!

misty williamson began singing before she turned three – no surprise here considering she’s performed in nineteen countries, bringing her soulful & jazzy sound to audiences worldwide. she’s performed at universal studios japan, sea world, buckhead church, the white house & most recently sang the national anthem at atlanta motor speedway.

misty’s first major album, “speak to me,” released by airria music in january is already making waves with its positive message. still not convinced? musicians on misty’s album have worked with the likes of aretha franklin, stevie wonder, tina turner, eric clapton &  more.

march 26th, misty will perform selections from “speak to me” at dunwoody community church. with the purchase of a ticket, you also receive a copy of misty’s album – we all love a freebie! more details can be found here.

i know it’s a bit early to start promoting a show that’s opening in 2011, but i got a little too excited to hear that one of my favorite movies, bring it on, is going to be a musical!  the alliance theatre will be showing the show in early 2011 and since the musical is premiering here in atlanta, we’ll be able to be the first to check it out before anyone else!  how good is this show going to be?  well the producers, writers (both music & lyrics) & director of the show also worked  broadway favorites avenue q, in the heights, & high fidelity.  more information can be found here http://www.alliancetheatre.org/Our-Plays/Next%20Season/Bring-It-On.aspx. while you wait for 2011, check out their current show that’s now playing: disney’s mulan
