burger bars seem to be all the trend these days in atlanta. opening up in the westside of midtown in the white provision district, is yeah! burger. yeah! burger stresses the farm to table concept, bringing you fresh meats & produce from local farms in georgia. in addition to bringing quality food, yeah! burger caters to special dietary needs such as gluten free buns & veggie patties. the menu is very extensive with many choices to select from. for meat you can get beef, bison, turkey, veggie or chicken breast & you can get it on a white, wheat, gluten free bun or lettuce wrap. there are multiple additions to customize your burger ranging from homemade dill pickles, grilled vidalia onions, avocado, assortment of cheeses, chili. bacon & more. plus you can add a special sauce to complete your creation with one of a kind sauces like bacon jam or yeah sauce, which is mayo mixed with chipotle. complete your meal with a side of fries, fried pickles, onion rings or gluten free fries. of course if you want to go all the way, add one of their delicious shakes, sundaes or my favorite a concrete…which is ice cream swirled with your favorite toppings (try the peanut butter cups & chocolate covered espresso beans)! not a burger fan, no worries! they also have hot dogs & salads to choose from. for more menu items and hours click here. definitely a must if you are a burger connoisseur!

in its 20th year, the pride run will be held in piedmont park again this year! the race will be on saturday, june 26th at 8:00am and the race costs $25.00 if you register in advance or $30.00 on race day. you can pick up race registrations at phidippides in ansley mall, big peach running co. & outwrite bookstore. you can also register at active.com by clicking here. all proceeds from the race will benefit H.E.R.O for children, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

one of my favorite neighborhood festivals in atlanta is the virginia highland summerfest! check out the artist market that lines the street of virginia ave then cool off in one of many virginia highland boutiques or restaurants. live bands & entertainment, a children’s area & food vendors will also be available & for you runners out there that need to start your day with a 5K run, the 5K starts saturday morning. for more information, check out their website here. parking may be difficult, but is easily walkable from piedmont park or surrounding neighborhoods. enjoy the start of summer with the va-highland summerfest!

in it’s 9th year, the atlanta downtown festival is going to be one of the most amazing and original festivals in atlanta! new this year, instead of touring the residents lofts or homes, its a tour of atlanta rooftops! called top of atlanta, the tour will include a lounge area with DJ/artist/or chef on each roof, historical information about the buildings and surrounding area, as well as provide architectural and skyscraper buffs the opportunity to access some the of best views in the city. tickets for the tour are $20.00. in addition to the tour, their will also be a scavenger hunt, where you have the ability to win $500 cash ($25.00 entrance fee) as well as an artist market and live music. the festival will be located at west peachtree place between spring and west peachtree streets. of course, marta is highly encouraged! for more information, click here.

i opened up my email this morning and got this very exciting email:

A limited number of seats in the first ten rows of the orchestra will be made available for $25 for every performance of AVENUE Q, the Tony® Award-winning musical, at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The tickets go on sale at the Cobb Energy Centre box office, on the day of performance only, two hours prior to the show and are available through a ticket lottery with a limit of two tickets per person, while supplies last.

In keeping with thematic issues in the show such as living in New York with big dreams and a tiny bank account, the producers of the show are committed to offering these special priced seats in each city the show will play.

previous shows, like rent have done this in the past and if you haven’t seen avenue q before, this is the perfect chance! avenue q will be playing at the cobb energy performance center from may 18-23.

leave the car at home and join atlanta streets alive on sunday, may 23 from 1-6pm! 4.4 miles of closed streets just for people to enjoy the city and its neighborhoods via walking, biking, etc… other events will be going on during the event such as tango, yoga, hula-hooping, break dancing, etc… so there is fun for everyone!

art: f18 photography show

walking around atlantic station today, i noticed one of the old boutiques is being converted into an art studio! this friday, may 21, 2010 from 6:00-9:00pm; f18 photography is opening up its doors to the public to showcase 18 photographers and their work in contemporary photography.

their website says: f/18 features the work of 18 atlanta-based artists, brought together by one common thread: pushing the boundaries of contemporary photography. the show will feature their latest works, comprising traditional, digital, and alternative methods in photography.

art: michelle malone band at kirkwood spring fling

atlanta native michelle malone and her band will be back in town on may15th at the kirwood spring fling & tour of homes. on the heels of the release of her tenth studio album, grammy nominated “debris” through the thirty tigers record label, michelle promises to tear up the stage at 5:30 pm for festival attendees. michelle’s sound has previously been compared to sheryl crow, bonnie raitt, and lucinda williams, but we think she has a style all her own. a combination of southern rock ‘n’ roll, sultry blues, and down home slide guitar pleases crowds both young and old. better yet, we love michelle because she grew up right here in atlanta. like many southern singer-songwriters, michelle grew up singing in the church choir before striking out on her own at sixteen. she now resides in decatur, alabama, but we’re thrilled to have her back in town.

make sure you have plenty of time to check out the kirkwood spring fling & tour of homes that weekend, but be sure to cap off your night with michelle malone.
